Exline Custom Auto can take your 1984-93 Dodge Daytona, convert it to rear wheel drive and put a V8 under your hood.

Exline Custom Auto can do the entire conversion in our shop, or sell you some of the parts so that you can do it yourself. The proccess begins with the front suspension. Almost all of the front suspension will remain stock with the exception of the Exline Custom Auto suspension conversion crossmember. It bolts to the factory frame and uses a Dodge Dakota steering rack, and modified spindles where the tie-rod bolts on. All other front suspension components remain stock.

Next, Exline Custom Auto will weld in the engine mount crossmember. This can be set up for just about any engine, however the small block Mopar engine is the most common choice. Even the small block Mopar engine is a tight fit in some places. There is no room for a manual fan, so an electric fan must be used. The engine will fit under the hood if a low intake and air cleaner are used. The radiator support must be modified to fit the new radiator inside it, and to make room for the engine.

Exline Custom Auto then moves on to the frame behind the firewall. The frame gets replaced with 2x3 square tubing from the firewall to the rear bumper to add strength to the unibody. Most of the original frame structure in this area is remeoved. At this time the transmission mounts are welded to the new frame and the custom transmission mount crossmember is ready to be bolted in. The area above the rear axle will need cut out and raised 3" to make room for the new rear differential to travel up and down. The spare tire well is removed to make room for the 1970-74 Dodge Challenger gas tank. The next step is to cut the firewall and transmission tunnel. The firewall needs to be cut to clear the bell housing and the tunnel will need widened slightly to clear the drive shaft. Most of these changes are not noticable once the interior is installed.

The rear suspension is made up of the factory springs and shocks with custom 26” ladder bars with rubber bushings in the ends to help reduce road vibrations and the original panhard bar modified. The 1970-74 E-body 8¾ rear is the correct width for use with the factory wheels but must be re-drilled for the correct bolt pattern and the hub in the center turned down to fit inside the Daytona wheels.
